A recent ruling by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR), requires any winery that intends to apply SO2 as a fumigant to sanitize barrels, and corks used in wine production, must either have a staff person with a Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC) with Category “P” (Microbial Pest Controll) or hire out the fumigation work to a DPR licensed pest control business that has on staff a Qualified Applicator License (QAL) holder with Category “A” to administer the fumigation. more. . .

Course Desription: This course will prepare students to pass both exams needed to be licensed to apply/purchase So2 gass for wine barrels, students must also register with Dept of Pesticide Regulaton to take the state exam (the class doesn't include that service or cost). The class can be held at the client’s facility or off-site and consists of four hours of classroom style training.  Instruction led explanation of the major concepts necessary to pass the Laws & Regulations and Microbial Pest Control exams.  Topics covered storage, handling, environmental concerns, worker safety, residue, re-entry, posting, definitions, enforcement, labels, licensing, fumigation, pest identification, pest management, pest monitoring, equipment and drift.  Each student will take a written practice exam which very closely simulates the actual state exam questions and then grade their exams in class.  Upon completion of the class no other study will be needed prior to taking the state exams. The class includes a take home study outline.
